Our Story
Having a cake for your birthday is a given tradition; it just wouldn't be a birthday without a birthday cake! However, there are thousands of kids in Minnesota alone who don't get a cake on their birthdays because their parents just can't afford it. That's where Veronica Descotte, Founder and Chief Baking Officer of Cakes on Wheels, steps in.
In October 2011, Veronica started Cakes on Wheels after listening to a heart breaking story on MPR about a mother struggling to provide for her kids. After hearing how sad this family was to be missing out on simple things like a birthday cake, Veronica decided that she would start baking for families in need so that no kid has to go without a cake on his or her birthday. Today, Veronica bakes dozens of cakes a month and hopes to one day, reach every kid in need.
Veronica's vision is to one day open a bakery so that the profits can be used to sustain Cakes on Wheels as well as provide a space for kids to come in and learn a new skill while staying off the streets. In the meantime, Veronica relies on her resources and the generous donations from people like YOU to continue to help make every birthday count.
